About

Church History

Evangelist Nancy Ann Hardin holds the distinction of being the inaugural pastor of the House of God in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a role she assumed in 1964 and faithfully served for six (6) years. Her ministry began with a focus on sharing the love of God, and during this time, she formed a close bond with Mother Mary Lewis and her family. This connection evolved into Evangelist Hardin imparting teachings about the Lord, the 7th day Sabbath, maintaining a clean diet, and receiving the Holy Ghost to Mother Lewis.

Initially conducting church services in her home, the congregation later moved to a building that also housed a grocery store. Eventually, due to the owner's expansion plans for the business, the church had to relocate. Evangelist Hardin recognized the need for assistance and requested support from the Chief Apostle, Bishop S.P. Rawlings.

Elder Grady Borders from Cincinnati, Ohio was sent to provide relief, for a brief period. Subsequently, Bishop Rawlings appointed Elder Marvin Travis, Sr. from Detroit, Michigan, as the pastor. Under his leadership, the church acquired its first church building. Unfortunately, during this period, Mother Hardin fell seriously ill but witnessed the acquisition of the first church before her passing in 1974. Elder Travis served as pastor for two (2) years, followed by brief tenures from Elder George Adams and Elder David Wallace.

In 1977, Minister Jerry Carter assumed the role of pastor. Upon his arrival, he discovered the church building in poor condition but, undeterred, immediately embarked on its cleaning and restoration.  His dedication extended to locating Mother Lewis and her family, demonstrating a heartfelt concern that led her to return to the church.

Since Bishop Carter's pastoral tenure began in 1977, the Fort Wayne Church has undergone significant challenges and triumphs. The first purchased church building faced destruction by fire in 1982 during a Passover celebration, leading the congregation to hold services in various locations, including saints’ homes, a garage, and eventually an apartment building. However, in 1985, through God's great mercy and love, the Fort Wayne House of God was able to build a new temple, despite limited resources.  Although some doubted, in particular the financial institution, the church’s capability of fulfilling their financial obligation to pay the mortgage, God blessed the church to pay the mortgage off in advance.

Presently, the Fort Wayne House of God stands as a testament to God's power and favor since its establishment in 1964. The church owns a complex spanning over 12,000 square feet, encompassing a church, a multi-purpose facility, and the Daniel 1:4 Learning Center. Over the years, the church has engaged in community outreach ministries; constructing a senior citizen duplex; weekly local television broadcasts, and live streaming that continues to reach and bless many.

The church acknowledges that its achievements are a manifestation of God's grace and humbly gives all honor, praise, and glory to Him.

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."
